Harbour View Rehab - Ergonomic Evaluation & Site Assessments
This is a comprehensive analysis of the critical demands of work including physical, cognitive, and environmental requirements. This assists the rehabilitation process by objectively establishing the requirements of work in order to promote a healthy work environment and reduce discomfort and potential injuries through identification of risk factors associated with:
- Awkward postures
- Extended repetition
- Static loading
- Work demands
- Pacing and break schedules
- Facility-specific issues
- Environmental issues (temperature, noise etc.)
We currently offer two types of assessments:
- Ergonomic Evaluation of the Jobsite.
- Ergonomic Evaluation plus Biomechanical analysis of the worker at the jobsite.
Based on the results of the ergonomic evaluation, recommendations can be made to improve the workstation such as the purchase of ergonomic aids or worksite modifications (if possible) etc. This data can also be combined with the results of an FCE to paint a full picture regarding employability and/or sustainability in the workforce.
Furthermore, a more in-depth Biomechanical analysis using the Functional Assessment of Biomechanics (FAB) system can be done while monitoring the client at the worksite. Data can be recorded for up to 8 hours, yielding full biomechanical analysis of the client’s movements throughout the day. Objective measurements such as velocity, acceleration, torque and force at the body’s joints can be analyzed and determined. This data can then be used to help identify risk factors for potential injury with real objective data and measurements and not only subjective observations. Moreover, the objective data can be used to help better answer the question of whether or not a worker can safely work in his/her present occupation, as well as sustainability of the job in the future. Further information on FAB can be found here – (www.biosyn.ca).
